About This Service in Kitchener

Therapy That Holds Your Whole Story, Including Where You Come From

Moving to Kitchener as an immigrant or newcomer brings unique pressures. You may be navigating employment barriers despite your qualifications, managing the strains of supporting family back home, or experiencing isolation within your cultural community. Kitchener's growing tech sector, while offering opportunities, can intensify workplace anxiety when you're adjusting to new professional norms and communication styles. Housing costs and financial uncertainty compound these challenges, leaving many newcomers stretched thin.

What mental health professionals call "acculturation stress" is the real exhaustion of living between two worlds. You're adapting to new systems, language, and social expectations while grieving what you left behind. Many immigrants and newcomers don't seek help because mental health carries stigma in their communities, because language barriers make therapy feel inaccessible, or because Western mental health approaches feel foreign or untrusting. When you're in survival mode, seeking therapy can feel like a luxury you can't afford.

LK Psychotherapy understands these layered experiences. Our BIPOC-led clinicians work with immigrant clients to address not just symptoms, but the identity conflicts, family expectations, and displacement that shape your mental health. We create space to explore how your cultural values intersect with your new environment, helping you build resilience without erasing who you are. You don't have to navigate this alone.

Why Immigrants in Kitchener Choose LK Psychotherapy

Our founder's own journey as an immigrant in Canada is the foundation of our clinical approach. We are not learning about your experience from a textbook.

Founded by an Immigrant, For Communities Like Yours

LK Psychotherapy was founded by Lethicia Foadjo, an immigrant and MSW RSW whose personal experience shapes a practice built for people whose stories are not the default.

Multilingual and Multi-Faith Aware

Language and faith matter in therapy. Our team brings cultural fluency across multiple languages and an awareness of religious and community contexts that affect how healing happens.

Anti-Oppressive, Not Just Inclusive

We do not just welcome diversity. We actively work against the systems that make it harder for immigrants, racialized people, and newcomers to access quality care and thrive in it.

Acculturation stress refers to the psychological impact of adapting to a new culture, including language pressure, shifting values and norms, loss of community and support networks, discrimination, and the exhaustion of constantly navigating an unfamiliar environment. Research consistently shows that immigrants face higher rates of depression, anxiety, and isolation, particularly in the first years of settlement. LK Psychotherapy takes an affirming, non-stigmatizing approach to working with acculturation stress and the grief of displacement.

Yes. LK Psychotherapy has multilingual clinicians on staff and takes language and cultural background into account when matching clients to their therapist. We understand that doing therapeutic work in a second language adds an additional layer of difficulty and that some concepts do not translate directly across cultures.
