Immigrant Mental Health Therapy in Brampton, Ontario

Moving to Brampton brings real weight. You're navigating a new job market, learning systems that feel foreign, managing family expectations across continents, and sometimes struggling to find mental health support offered in your language. Brampton's growing South Asian community means many of you share similar experiences, yet isolation still finds its way in during late nights when homesickness or doubt creeps in.

LK Psychotherapy understands this territory. We're a multilingual, culturally grounded practice led by therapists from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities. When you work with us virtually, your background isn't something we need to explain to us or work around. Your culture, your migration story, your values are the actual starting point of our work together.

About This Service in Brampton

Therapy That Holds Your Whole Story, Including Where You Come From

Moving to Brampton brings both opportunity and invisible weight. As one of Canada's most diverse cities, Brampton's large South Asian, Caribbean, and African communities create rich cultural networks, yet these same tight-knit communities can intensify pressure to succeed, provide for extended family back home, and maintain cultural expectations. Newcomers often juggle multiple jobs, navigate unfamiliar employment systems, and face the strain of financial instability while appearing strong for their families. The mental health toll of this invisible labour rarely gets acknowledged.

Acculturation stress describes the psychological strain of navigating two worlds at once: honoring your heritage while adapting to a new culture. Many immigrant communities in Brampton don't seek help because mental health struggles carry deep stigma, conversations happen in languages where psychological terms don't exist, and Western therapy models feel foreign or untrusting. Added to this is the exhaustion of survival mode, where daily energy goes toward basic security, leaving little room to process grief, loss, or identity questions that surface years into settlement.

LK Psychotherapy understands these layers. Our BIPOC-led team works with the whole picture: the family expectations pulling at you, the parts of yourself you've had to reshape, and the grief of displacement alongside your resilience. We speak to your experience without requiring you to translate your cultural reality into Western frameworks. Therapy here means exploring who you are becoming while honoring who you've always been.

Founded by an Immigrant, For Communities Like Yours

LK Psychotherapy was founded by Lethicia Foadjo, an immigrant and MSW RSW whose personal experience shapes a practice built for people whose stories are not the default.

Multilingual and Multi-Faith Aware

Language and faith matter in therapy. Our team brings cultural fluency across multiple languages and an awareness of religious and community contexts that affect how healing happens.

Anti-Oppressive, Not Just Inclusive

We do not just welcome diversity. We actively work against the systems that make it harder for immigrants, racialized people, and newcomers to access quality care and thrive in it.

Acculturation stress refers to the psychological impact of adapting to a new culture, including language pressure, shifting values and norms, loss of community and support networks, discrimination, and the exhaustion of constantly navigating an unfamiliar environment. Research consistently shows that immigrants face higher rates of depression, anxiety, and isolation, particularly in the first years of settlement. LK Psychotherapy takes an affirming, non-stigmatizing approach to working with acculturation stress and the grief of displacement.

Yes. LK Psychotherapy has multilingual clinicians on staff and takes language and cultural background into account when matching clients to their therapist. We understand that doing therapeutic work in a second language adds an additional layer of difficulty and that some concepts do not translate directly across cultures. Please mention your language preference during your free consultation and we will do our best to accommodate you.
